چکیده

Pavement breaking generates a high level of ground vibration that is potentially damaging to nearby buildings and infrastructures. In this paper, a numerical model for the estimation of the impact load due the blow of a falling-weight pavement breaker is first developed. The estimated impact load is in good agreement with the experimental result. Next, the fracturing of the concrete road is investigated and the amount of dissipated energy is found to be only a small fraction of the impact energy. The large part of the impact energy is transferred to the soil and causes ground vibrations. Finally, a non-linear road-soil interaction model is developed and numerically verified. The model accounts for both road-soil separation as well as the inelastic behaviour of the soil. The model is used to predict ground vibrations generated by the operation of a multi-head pavement breaker. Up to 25m from the road, the predicted ground vibrations agree with the experimental results while at large distances the model underestimates the response. Keywords—pavement breaking, ground vibration, fallingweight impact, non-linear road-soil interaction

Mechanistic-Empirical Analysis of Asphalt Dynamic Modulus for Rehabilitation Projects in Iran

In the Mechanistic–Empirical Pavement Design Guide (MEPDG), dynamic modulus of asphalt mixes is used as one of the input parameters in pavement analysis and design. For in-service pavements, MEPDG method uses a combination of some field and laboratory tests for structural evaluation of asphalt layers in rehabilitation projects. In this study, ten new and rehabilitated in-service asphalt pavemen...

Computationally efficient surrogate response models for mechanistic-empirical pavement analysis and design

This paper proposes the use of neural network(NN-) based pavement structural analysis tools as surrogates for the flexible pavement response analysis in the new mechanistic empirical pavement design guide (MEPDG) developed for the American State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). Some of the recent successful applications of NN-based structural analysis models for predicting critica...

Prediction of Pavement Performance through Neuro-Fuzzy Reasoning

Government agencies and consulting companies in charge of pavement management face the challenge of maintaining pavements in serviceable conditions throughout their life from the functional and structural standpoints. For this, the assessment and prediction of the pavement conditions are crucial. This study proposes a neuro-fuzzy model to predict the performance of flexible pavements using the ...

Studying Peak Particle Velocity Due to Blast in Development Tunnels’ Face in Coal Stoping

The impact of blast-driven shocks on the safety and stability of the underground coal mines has been well established. The seismic imperfections resulting from blasting depend on the total explosive energy released during blasting and the closeness of the development tunnel face to the stope face. Also, the quality of the rock mass wherein the whole stope face is located might pose considerable...
